About this Talk
DesignAbility will highlight some of the custom, user-centered design solutions created to help people overcome barriers in their physical environment. We will demonstrate how a community of volunteer engineers, occupational therapists, designers, makers, and students can work collaboratively with clients to develop inexpensive customized assistive devices that remove barriers and improve quality of life.
DesignAbility will close with a look to the future, demonstrating how advancements in technology will increase our ability to serve more clients and produce increasingly sophisticated solutions to an expanding global audience.

The March of Dimes Canada DesignAbility® Program utilizes the ingenuity of skilled volunteers to help people of all ages overcome physical barriers through the creation of customized assistive devices. Custom-built devices and modifications to existing products are created to help people overcome barriers related to work, play, personal hygiene, and other daily activities. Projects completed through the DesignAbility® Program help people increase their independence and live more fulfilled lives.
